Writing a Sequel and Traveling Overseas

By the time you’re reading this post, I’ll have just landed in Thailand. How exciting is that? I haven’t been back in two years, and I’ve missed it so dearly. I can’t wait to share a detailed update with you once I get back (or possibly partway through my time there, depending on how I’m feeling) about how it went/is going, things I learned, and all the fun things I did.

I’ll be doing my best to keep you updated on the daily over on my Instagram page, so if you haven’t followed me over there, feel free to do so for more in-the-moment updates!

Writing Sequels

Now. For the first time since I was probably around fifteen, I’m working on a sequel.

In case you’re out of the loop, I recently published a middle grade fantasy novel called Ophelia Brown and the Unseen. I’m absolutely in love with it, and even though I had some serious issues publishing it because of the printing company I chose, I somehow managed to love the process of publishing still. It hasn’t deterred me from continuing the series. Crazy, right?

The process of writing a sequel is insanely fun so far, but also…intimidating. After all, I don’t know about you, but every second book in a series I’ve ever read is either the worst one in the series or the best one. No pressure, right?

I finished writing the first draft of OBATMM (as I will be lovingly referring to it as until the official release of the book’s title) while Book 1 was with my beta readers. Now, I’m working on going through and rewriting the book…from scratch.

I re-read everything I had written already, took notes, and now I’m using that (along with draft one) as an outline for draft two. It definitely makes the process take longer, but it also makes it not as scary to totally scrap things if I need to, rewrite whatever I have to, and generally be very free with my changes. It doesn’t affect the first version at all, and I don’t technically have to “delete” anything…I’m just writing from scratch again!

I’ll keep you up to date as I work on that progress. So far it’s slow going but a lot of fun, and I’m hoping to have it done by October 31.

Other than that, I don’t have a lot to update you on yet! Keep an eye out for updates on the book’s title, release date, book cover, and other info. And stick around for a fun post about my time in Thailand!

What do you think OBATMM stands for? đź‘€ Let me know in the comments below!
