FAQ

How many books are there going to be in the Ophelia Brown Series?

Currently, the plan is for there to be 5 books in the series total (not including the prequel short story, Grubsy and the Great Gateway, coming soon!)

When will Ophelia Brown and the Lake of the Naiad be released?

The official release date is TBD, but if all goes according to plan, you’ll be able to continue the adventure through the Unseen Realm in 2027!

Does it matter what order I read the Ophelia Brown Series in?

Yes. The Ophelia Brown series is chronological, so you should start with Book 1!

How old should my child be before they read the Ophelia Brown series?

Ophelia Brown and the Unseen is a family friendly read, perfect for ages 9+. However, some younger readers have also enjoyed reading it. There is no major violence (a couple of fights and some punching) and nothing horribly scary (some fire/high stakes). It makes for a great family read-aloud!

That being said, as the story progresses, the age of the ideal reader will increase (similar to books like Harry Potter or Percy Jackson). Ophelia Brown and the Mythical Menagerie has some more violence/peril, and so, while younger readers certainly can and do enjoy the story, some might be more sensitive to its contents. Book 3, Ophelia Brown and the Lake of the Naiad, will be ideal for readers 12+, with stakes rising and peril growing. Overall, each parent should do what they think is best for their individual child, and if you ever have any questions, feel free to reach out to me through my contact page for more clarification!

What kind of kid might enjoy this series?

If you have a young reader who enjoys any of the following books, they might just enjoy this series, too (and I’ll explain why)!

  • The Spiderwick Chronicles (hidden world within our own, goblins/magical creatures, adventurous)
  • Fablehaven (hidden world within our own, magical creatures)
  • Percy Jackson (grows with the reader, fantasy world within our own, relatable main character, adventurous)
  • The Wingfeather Saga (fantasy world, mythical/magical creatures, adventurous)
  • Harry Potter (learning about a magical world within our own, mythical creatures, magic system/government, friendship, etc.)

If your reader enjoys middle-grade, magic adventure stories, fairies, goblins, fantasy realms, action, adventure, and/or mystery, this series might be a good fit for them!

What genre is the Ophelia Brown Series?

The Ophelia Brown Series falls under a few categories:

  • Middle-grade fantasy
  • Portal fantasy
  • Mythical creature fantasy
  • Adventure fantasy
Is the Ophelia Brown Series Christian fiction?

No, the Ophelia Brown Series is not Christian fiction. I am a Christian author, and my beliefs and worldview, of course, are a driving force behind my storytelling. Because of that, Ophelia Brown has some elements that those of a similar faith might relate to (i.e. the theme of learning to believe in something you can’t see) and it does have culturally small-town Christian elements in it (Ophelia’s dad is a pastor, they’re learning about magic in the church basement, etc.).

In order to be classified as Christian fiction, a story needs to include a plot that specifically revolves around Christian theology, beliefs, and faith, and often includes the Christian faith being a main driving force for the solution to the plot. Ophelia Brown doesn’t include any of these elements.

If you’re interested in reading some of my Christian fiction, you can look into my first published novel, the YA Christian Gaslamp Fantasy A Wilted Willow.
